How to

Cat wand

Cat wand

Have you ever stopped doing something just to see how your cat is playing like a kitten? Games are very important for cats, as pets can observe, explore, climb, attack and hunt in that way. Moreover, the game time is a sure sign for a pet owner that their cat is in good spirits, keeps them healthy and gives them a balanced lifestyle.

Playtime is an important part of your cat’s daily health because he is a predator and was born to move. Pam Johnson-Bennett

A cat wand or cat catcher is one of the simplest toys for cats, that most pets like. If you do not know what toys your cat will like, buy or create a few, and then you will see what game your pet prefers. You do not need to have any particular skills or instruments to make a cat feather wand with bells or anything else. It also does not take too much time to make this cat toy, and if you have a child or children, you can spend time together creating a toy wand for your pet.

How to make a cat wand?

To make a cat wand you will need:

  • wooden dowel;
  • string;
  • leather cord;
  • scissors;
  • non toxic wood glue;
  •  additional elements: rings, feathers, yarn, fabric scraps, pom-poms.

Required items to make a cat catcher

To make a cat catcher more comfortable, wrap the wooden dowel with string. If you want to have the wand toy more durable, you can use non toxic wood glue. You can wrap only the end and the beginning of wooden dowel, or you can wrap it all.

Dowel being wrapped in string for comfort

Make and glue a loop at the end of the wooden dowel, and finish wrapping.

Sew fabric scraps and pom-poms on. You can use any material (yarn, feathers, rings,  and so on) you have or like, the sky is the limit.

Cat catcher is almost completed and looking nice and bright

Sew the base with the leather cord.

If you have a pet, make or buy a cat wand to enjoy time spent together

And now it is time to play with your feline friend.
