Ukranian Levkoy – personality

written by meowpassion
Ukranian Levkoy – personality

The Ukranian Levkoy originates from Ukraine and is named after a gillyflower or Matthiola, a fragrant garden flower. The Ukrainian Levkoy cat is the only breed that has little to no coat (fur) and inward-folding ears.

The Ukrainian levkoy (sphinx) cat is very graceful and strong animal with a medium-sized long body.

The cat has a slim body and strong legs, that ideally go with not too long but flexible tail. The profile of the head is “stepped” and outlined by prominent cheekbones and large ears. Add to this all the huge almond-shaped eyes, always mysteriously half-closed.  Eyes can be of any colour, but the standard gives preference to green-eyed or blue-eyed cats.

Ukrainian Levkoy cats are very sociable and like being partnered day and night. However, they are not cats who will be bothering their owners with obsessive chatter or meowing and begging food. Ukrainian Levkoy cat breeders say that their voice is soft and delicate. Cats will use verbal way of communication as a last resort when the animal feels to be completely neglected.

The ideal representative of this breed has no coat (fur), and skin is folded on the head and on the body. However, not all Ukrainian Levkoy cats are born without fur, as the cat  is a result of two breeds crossing, sphinxes with Scottish fold cats. Therefore, you can see the Ukrainian Levkoy with fur on their face, behind ears, on legs and on the tail.

Ukranian Levkoy cats come in a wide range of colors, and as the creator of the breed Elena Biryukova said, it might be any color that Mother Nature and the Lord God have made.

Ukrainian Levkoy sphynx cats are ideal pets, as animals are not aggressive, intelligent and tolerant. Animals are easily trained, and with great pleasure they go for walks with their owners, and can be taught to follow simple orders. Cats like being a prime focus and is an ideal pet for those individuals who wish to have a real partner, who will be always there for them.

Levkoy cat is a very sociable animal, who gives their attention to every member of a family and builds excellent relations with everyone. At the same time, the Ukranian Levkoy accepts the love of their owners with great gratitude.

Ukrainian Levkoy cat breeders say that cats are very obedient. These cats are very dependent on humans, and they will obey their owner to be praised all the time and actively participate in family life.

The Levkoy cats are active, but not too much. Cats are happy to take part in a play, that their owner offers, but will not spend their energy being naughty. Pets will also be happy to relax near their owner.

Ukrainian Levkoy cat is one of the most affectionate pets. If you wish to sleep, eat or watch TV in the company of a cat, then Ukrainian Levkoy is just for you. Owners, who love high temperatures, will definitely appreciate this alive “hot-water battle”, as their body is really warm.

Despite the cat is friendly towards every member of a family, the animal will probably prefer the company of adults. The pet will not behave aggressively towards a child, he will rather leave and search for another companion.

Cats will demonstrate their curiosity towards strangers, and pets will be glad to welcome guests with their owners. However, Ukrainian Levkoy cat will rather avoid noisy companies, as animals do not like  hustle and bustle.

Ukrainian Levkoy cat tolerates other animals and pets, but the cat will not accept the situation when he will have to share the owner’s attention and love with another yet cat or dog.

Levkoy cats like warm temperatures, but do not tolerate intensive sun and dry air. An owner should remember to cut their claws regularly and provide particular care for skin and eyes. The skin of cats requires special attention, and skin lesions are really critical. Ukranian Levkoy cat should be regularly bathed.

The cats tend to eat everything, even uneatable or poisonous things, and that behaviour might play a cruel joke. For this reason, if you are an owner of a Levkoy cat, you should keep away everything that might be harmful to the animal.

Breeder recommendation (Chthon):
Skin care is slightly different and depends on how much fur the cat has. The Hairless Ukrainian Levkoy need greater care than flock or brush cats, as they have almost no skin excretions and can be washed less often.
